2.1 Pre-translation preparation

Pre-translation work for the present project includes the selection of translationtools and references, the choice of guiding translation theory, and the formulation oftranslation schedule.

2.1.1 Translation tools and references

The computer-aided translation software used in this translation project is DéjàVu. In addition, the corpus retrieval tool, Antconc, is also used to examinehigh-frequency words and keywords in the original text so as to unify the translationof professional terms. In the process of translation, the translator also consulteddictionaries such as The Oxford Advanced English-Chinese Bilingual Dictionary, LuGusun English-Chinese Dictionary, and online dictionaries such as LONGMAN,Collins. At the same time, the translator referred to books on translation such asEnglish-Chinese Translation Skills, Field Translation and A Short Course inEnglish-Chinese Translation for possible inspirations. These tools proved to behelpful for this translation project.

2.1.2 Translation theory

In the process of translation practice, the translator adopted Verschueren’sadaptation theory as the guiding theory. In Verschueren’s view, language use is aprocess of making choice. This means that the use of language must involvecontinuous language choices, consciously or unconsciously, for internal or externalreasons (Verschueren, 2000:58).

2.2 Translation process

The first step of translation process is to sort out the original text. Secondly, thetranslator completed translation on the basis of understanding the original text andmarked key points and difficulties in the translation process.

To understand the writing style of the original text, the author of the report readthe source text intensively, referring to the related enterprise management articles andthe bibliography. The author, when necessary, turned to relevant professionals forconsultation and verification.

The first draft of translation is completed with the help of the computer-aidedtranslation software Déjà Vu. Considering that the source text is academic andprofessional and that the translation of terms is essential in the process of translation,the translator consciously marked some key professional terms. By referring torelevant dictionary and searching for information on the Internet, the translator had afull understanding of the terms and formed an accurate translation.
