In fact, repair as an effective rapport-orientation strategy can conduct functions from two degrees: as a means of rapport maintenance orientation and as a means of rapport enhancement orientation. Communicative problems are frequented by participants here and there, some of them may be caused by the slip of the tongue, some may be caused by the inappropriate utterances, and some others may be due to the abbreviation of words. If not tackled effectively with appropriate linguistic strategy, they may pose many obstacles to maintaining the harmonious interpersonal relation. In respect to those cases, repair is of much help to work them out to maintain the harmonious development of communication.

Conclusion
This chapter serves to conclude the present study of repair. It starts with a report of the research findings. Then it talks about the implications. Finally it points out the limitations and offers some suggestions for further study.The study of repair from the perspective of Rapport Management-Adaptation approach is considered to be a development of both Spencer-Oatey’s Rapport Management Model and Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory. Through the deduction of the theoretic model and the analysis of specific examples, some new findings are proposed from two aspects.The present study of repair is mainly theory-driven. By means of combining the Rapport Management Model and Linguistic Adaptation Theory, we construct a Rapport Management-Adaptation Model to analyze repair. Therefore, this model is supposed to be treated as the application of Rapport Management Model and Linguistic Adaptation Theory. The reasons why we try to propose the Rapport Management-Adaptation Model are based on the fact that: 1) the existing model of Rapport Management cannot describe the process of the dynamic selection and use of repair in contexts despite its powerful explanation of the motivational forces of repair as an effective linguistic strategy to assure the informative transmission and come true the rapport orientation of interpersonal relation; 2) although Linguistic Adaptation Theory can satisfactorily explain the generative mechanism of repair, yet it is incapable of answering such questions as why repair is rapport-oriented and how it conducts functio
