摘要:Now there is a great deal of researches and contributions about students withlearning difficulties. But how to help these students is also the question which thewriter concerns.
2.2 Studies on Motivation
Wen Qiufang thinks that "the motivation to leam English can be simply interpretedas ttie reason and purpose of learning English "(1996: 174).He Zhaoxiong and MeiDeming define language learning motivation as "the learner's overall goal or\orientation"(1999:280).Motivation is defined by Robert Slavin (2003) as "what gets you going,keeps yougoing,and determines where you want to go,,(Slavin, 2003,p.329)Many researchers agree that motivation is a key component in reaching a higji levelof student achievement (Brookhart et al,2006; Palmer, 2005; Mazer, murphy,&Simonds, 2007) Integrative motivation and instrumental motivation. It came from Gardner andLambert's division of motivation. Integrative motivation engenders high learninginitiative and consciousness in foreign language learning and makes learners follydevelop themselves. Instrumental motivation makes a learner's foreign languagelearning passive and lack enthusiasm. However, some studies have shown tiiatintegrative motivation and instrumental motivation are likely to show upsimultaneously on the learner, and one is dominant and the other is in a subordinateposition.
