According to searching on CNKI with the English translation of Zhongyongas the keyword,it is found that there are 54 journals,18 master’s theses and 3doctoral dissertations.And these studies are mainly carried out from theperspectives of the translator’s translation thought,the comparative study,theconstruction of philosophy and so on at home.

From the perspective of comparative study,many Chinese scholars are moreinclined to the comparative studies of multiple translations.For example,Jiang(2013) compares the translations of“天(tian)”in five English versions of Zhongyong.Andshe points out that how to grasp the degree of understanding and interpretation of thesource text is the key to the English-Chinese translation.Also she(2015)launches adetailed discussion of the English translation of“诚(cheng)”in the five versions andfinds that both“sincerity”,“true”,“truth”,“real”,“realness”and“creativity”conveythe meaning of some aspect of“诚(cheng)”,but it is difficult to fully convey the allmeanings of“诚(cheng)”in Zhongyong.Besides,Song(2014)compares threeEnglish versions of Zhongyong published in the United States in the early 21stcentury from the perspective of“Thick translation”,including Andrew Plaks’stranslation,Ames and Hall’s collaborative translation and Daniel Gardner’stranslation.And it is shown that the three English versions all present significantfeatures of“Thick Translation”and the diversified interpretations of philosophy,poetics and history in the three versions are interpreted as the product of the tensionbetween the translator and translator’s existential context.Furthermore,Yang(2019)conducts a quantitative comparative analysis on the readability of 25 English versionsof Zhongyong and the text written by the translator by using the online text analysistool COH metrix 3.0 and Microsoft Word in order to quantify the target textacceptance indicators.It is found that the translator’s writing text is too simple anddoes not match the target language readers’reading level.
