摘要:本文是一篇英语教学论文题目,本研究以产出导向法理论和思辨能力理论模型为基础,以桂林学院非英语专业72名新生为研究对象,采用测试法和访谈法,探究POA理论指导下的英语写作教学对非英语专业大学生思辨能力的培养情况。

本文是一篇英语教学论文题目,本研究对英语写作教学过程中培养学生的思辨能力有以下启示:首先,教师应当树立正确的观念,改变以往应试教育的传统授课模式,把培养学生思辨能力加入到教学任务之中。

Chapter 1  Introduction

1.1 Research Background

The competition for economic, technological, and human resources among nations has grown fierce with the rapid advancement of science and technology, the arrival of the era of globalization, and the development of information technology. As a result, developing innovative talent has become a crucial initiative to support a nation’s economic prosperity and sustainable development. Critical thinking is an integral part of the ability to innovate, and criticism is a prerequisite and basis for innovation, without which there can be no innovation (Li Ruifang, 2002). 

According to recent reports, many nations have prioritized the development of critical thinking ability as one of their vital Educational objectives. The United States has not only officially included critical thinking ability as one of the goals of university education (National Education Goals Panel, 1991) but also regarded it as a core goal of higher education (Kuhn, 1999). The English National Curriculum clearly states that the school curriculum should enable pupils to think creatively and critically, improve their problem-solving skills and make changes for the better (White, 2004). In China, Higher Education Law (2018) points out that the mission of higher education is to cultivate senior professionals with a sense of the spirit of innovation and practical capabilities, in which the core of both the spirit of innovation and practical capabilities is the critical thinking ability (Sun Youzhong, 2011a). College English has always been the most basic course in every university, and it still occupies a place in our country’s entire higher education curriculum and cannot be ignored. The College English Teaching Guidelines, providing guidance on college English teaching, requires that the development of the student’s critical thinking ability should be incorporated into the teaching objectives.

1.2 Research Purpose

The cultivation of critical thinking ability is an eternal proposition in higher education, and its importance has become more prominent in the new round of education reform-oriented to the connotative development and quality improvement of Chinese higher education. Critical thinking has received increased attention from educational experts at home and abroad as an essential component of thinking capacity and has evolved into one of the teaching objectives for English language learning. However, foreign language education tends to focus on language skills, ignoring the cultivation of students’ critical thinking ability. A large number of teaching activities are carried out at the level of mechanical imitation and low-level thinking (Sun Youzhong, 2015). 

Writing is a crucial component of English education and learning, as well as a challenging process requiring the use of both language and thought. The method of teaching English writing can be one of the ways to develop students’ critical thinking ability. However, most English writing instructions only concentrate on the growth of students’ language knowledge and skills, ignoring the development of student’s critical thinking ability.
