3.5.3 Research Process:
A valid approach to case studies is to utilise a survey “to produce quantitative data as part of the case study evidence” Yin (2003:91). Although questionnaires are more commonly utilised within a survey research strategy, the quantitative approach was considered as a proper analysis of the situation by providing numerical analysis. Methods such as questionnaires are often selected as the most efficient method of gaining the information within a limited timescale and at relatively low cost (Bell, 2002). For this reason the author has utilised questionnaires in order to obtain responses from the FM staff and the best practice of research process was followed.
First, to ensure the questionnaire was applicable and avoided ambiguity was submitted to the project tutor for criticism. Second, to minimize the possibility of misunderstanding and to maximize the number of respondents, the questioner designed to fill in the answers in simple check boxes. Third, it was steered with a small number of respondents to ensure that it is understandable and easy to complete. Fourth, email communication was used to speed up the process, but of course this raises the question of confidentiality as correspondence returned provides the respondent’s details. To overcome this, confidentiality was guaranteed in that the respondents’ names would not be disclosed as part of the findings especially when the employee is evaluating his boss and the working environment, bearing in mind, giving him more space of freedom will improve the response which will help to reach fair, accurate and unbiased result. Fifth, the survey was distributed among three levels of employers within the Facility Management to have different feedback, i.e Managers, seniors and juniors staff. Sixth, to avoid any violation in to the surveyed organization an approval was taken from the top management.
Finally, the questionnaire is classified in to different clear sections, covers the areas of organizational culture, change process and employee issues.
3.6 QUANTITATIVE METHOD
Quantitative research was done through the distribution of questionnaires to employees work in the Facility Management (FM) of the outsourced vendor. Therefore, the feedback is to be collected from the FM employees and managers directly to obtain their feedback on the research objectives.
3.6.1 Questionnaire Objectives
The points mentioned earlier would be covered in different degree of depth, because of time limitation, limitation of research length and the nature of change management wide subject.
