4.2.5 Promoting Learner Autonomy
Successful language learners consistently employ effective learning strategies both inside and outside of the classroom．We believe that students who can study by themselves by, for example，using the Internet，have a much better chance of succeeding in a foreign language than those who don’t．And also computers will not replace teachers．However, teachers who use computers will probably replace teachers who do not．

A lot of materials for oral English teaching and learning have emerged especially in recent years．Many publishers have made a great effort in promoting their materials in order to occupy a larger market．Some materials are really attractive in their layout and organization of the content．However, some are not so practical or scientific．   
As far as we know, no unified oral English materials are available to satisfy the need of all the vocational secondary vocational school．Some have slight connection with students’ major．In order to solve this problem, each secondary vocational school can encourage her own teachers to explore and compile teaching materials to fit into the need of her own students，conforming to the compiling principles．In this way，the newly-compiled materials may be more interesting，practical，school-based and more relevant to the students’ major．Moreover, the school-based materials should be based on the following principles．   
1. The materials should integrate all the comprehensive language skills．   
2. The material should strike the balance between the requirements of examinations    and the students’ future use．Students’ purpose is not only for examinations．   
3. The material should encourage the learners to learn by themselves, and students    are not able to give up studying English． 
4. The material should be practical, simple，authentic and updated．Using    school-based books, students can enjoy learning oral English．   
5. The material should meet the students’ interest．
6. The material should have an appropriate coverage and frequent repetition of    vocabulary．   
7. The material should be well organized from easier to more different．   
8. The material should be equipped with adequate and reasonable supplements．   
Writing appropriate school-based materials is a complicated and important task，since it is closely related to the students’ effective language learning．In this process，we must take many other principles into consideration besides those mentioned above．We believe that with the efforts of teachers and researchers, there will be more and more good materials to improve secondary vocational school English teaching．

We should pay heed to developing student’s oral English speaking in secondary vocational school.
