4.2.2 Oral English Competition
An oral English competition can strengthen students’ enthusiasm in English and further develop their comprehensive skills.An example of oral English competition is as follows:
Firstly, All contestants must prepare a speech for three minutes,which is written by students themselves.In the speech, the contestant can introduce his or her personal condition, such as the family,the hobbies and habits,the friend and friendship and so on.
Secondly, The judge shows the contestants a few cards,and on each card there is a question, such as quickly reading a short story, listening to a brief conversation and telling the meaning, explaining a picture and expressing ideas of a given topic,etc. And each contestant must choose one card and finish the task in five minutes.
Finally, One or two judges will ask each contestant some questions according to his or her performances of the first two stages,and announce his or her average score and decide the final winners.At the same time,other students can be the judges for prize of “the most popular contestant”.
In such an oral English competition,students can express their thoughts on different topics or backgrounds in different stages.And it is also a chance for all students to listen to others’ speaking and to know each other better.
4.2.3 Watching Movie Trailers
The great advantage of showing trailers is that they are short,succinct,self-contained,topical,free and readily available over the Internet.The language,if narrated,is invariably clear, and the actors are usually famous.Students can gain great confidence in realizing that English movie is accessible to them and repeated exposure outside class,which is often inevitable,can only further enhance their listening skills and confidence.

1. They can be used as drama.
2. They can be used as pronunciation practice.

4.2.4 Listening to English Songs
Needs analysis surveys identify songs as the number one favorite among my students.Songs are good for language learning because of the way they affect our emotions.Songs can be used to teach vocabulary,grammar and culture.Provide each student with a list of the current top ten popular songs.Play excerpts from some or all of the songs,and choose some questions to ask your students,such as:Did you like the song? Have you heard this song before? How did the song make you feel? What instruments did you hear?
We should:
-make students listen and follow the song and improve their pronunciation.
-use them as a reading/pre-listening exercise.
-1isten and draw part or all of the song.
-sing the song with the whole class and enjoy yourselves.
-use them as a cloze exercise.
