na and abroad devotedthemselves into the study of disaster coverage from different perspectives, like thecritical discourse analysis perspective, the stylistic perspective, the interculturalperspective and other perspectives.Ever since the ancient times, disaster is an inevitable part of people’s life whichinfluences their lives and living styles. Disaster is a variety of tragedies, frustrations ormisfortune causing great death, suffering and financial loss, which can be classified intonatural disasters and man-made hazards. A natural disaster is a major adverse eventresulting from natural processes of the Earth, such as flood, earthquake, drought orhurricane. Man-made hazards refer to the catastrophe caused by human behaviorintentionally or unintentionally like blackout or terrorist attacks. Disaster, by itsoverwhelming cruelty, has always been the focus that news agency pays close attentionto. Especially in recent years, numerous disasters have occurred all around the worldwhich is reported timely and thus the disaster coverage arrests many scholars’ attentionand provokes their interest as well.

2.1 Previous Research on Disaster Coverage Abroad
In view of the significance of the disaster coverage, numerous western scholarshave obtained achievements from critical discourse analysis perspective, stylisticperspective, and social-cultural perspective.Fowler et al (1979) stated that the critical discourse analysis should depend on theanalysis of modality, transformation, classification and transitivity which aimed toexplore the embedded ideological meanings. Then Fowler (1991) brought up theframework of critical discourse analysis (CDA) and applied it in specific news texts.Compared with Fowler, Van Dijk (1985) did a more systematical and comprehensiveexamination about the structure and linguistic features of news. He divided the news discourse into two sections --- the summary and the news discourse. Soon afterwardsFairclough (1989) constructed a practical methodology for CDA and a social theory fordiscourse. He classified discourse into three dimensions: text, interactions and contexts.And he put forward a procedure to conduct critical discourse analysis corresponding tothe three dimensions of discourse, namely, description, interpretation and explanation.Moreover, Robin et al. (2008) conducted a critical discourse analysis on the newsreports about a devastating forest fire. It explored the news Media coverage of therecovery process in two rural communities after a destructive forest fire.

2.2 Previous Research on Disaster Coverage at home

In China, the study of disaster coverage began from mid-1990s. Chinese scholarsdid the research from journalistic perspective, the linguistics perspective, theintercultural perspective as well as other perspectives.He suggested that the basic principle to report disaster should bepossessiveness, promptness and adequacy. Another principle that he proposed was toreport disaster news properly and cautiously. Later on, Tian Zhongchu (2005) critiquedthe contemporary disaster coverage in China and examined the relationship betweengovernment and news media by taking the framework of the government and societytheory. Being distinct from the former two, Li Wei(2005) explored the development andactuality of disaster news following a process of perceiving，reporting, writing and soon.
