摘要：Therefore, the author investigates the English learning situation of migrant workers’children from four aspects. Namely, they are the emotional attitudes of migrant workers’children in English learning, and their habits and methods, and their English knowledge andskills, and their anticipation of English class and teacher.

hat. So if children move to another school they will meet lots of trouble inlearning. And that kind of students who will bring a lot of difficulties for teacher’s teaching,and some English teachers feel confused the situation of this special group like migrantworkers’ children. Some of teachers even don’t realize where the problem lies. Therefore, it isnecessary to study this field and try to find the basic situation of the migrant workers’children in English learning and then to put forward some feasible suggestions for Englishteachers.
The author conducts a survey in some schools where most of students are migrantworkers’ children who are in junior high school. And the author finds that most of the migrantchildren are from rural area. These children are rarely to be exposed to English. On the otherhand, they learn English late, having poor foundation. The field of English knowledge thatthey do not understand will accumulate more and more, thus the gaps between with otherstudents are getting more and more serious. At last, their study state leads to a vicious cycle.As with the local children, migrant children also participate in the annual entranceexamination, but their English performance were not satisfactory. It will not only affect theirEnglish study but also will cause certain amounts of trouble in their future. Therefore, as anEnglish teacher, to try to improve the children of migrant workers in English learning willbecome a center in teaching jobs. It is the basic starting point and theoretical foundation thatusing the existing resources to explore the teaching way in English for improving theirlearning.

Chapter Two Literature Review

This chapter mainly introduces the definition of the floating population or migrantworkers and the children of the migrant workers. The paper also illustrates the relevanttheories and relevant studies at home and abroad.

2.1 The relevant terms

2.1.1 The floating population
Due to the definition of floating population is very comprehensive and open, thus thereare some similar connotations about floating population, such as migrant workers, mobilestaff, transient population, and external working staff etc. So far, the concept of floatingpopulation has not yet formed a unified understanding, either in its name or its definition.Those titles are used obscurely, so it is necessary to clarify its notion. In short, the populationmigration and change are caused by working outside of their home.In the China Encyclopedia•Sociology Volume (1991), the floating population is definedas the population of temporarily living the usual short-term migration. The floatingpopulation refers to the people who have permanent residence in the local place regardless oftheir length of residence and the kinds of the work or activity that they engaged in the GrandDictionary of Chinese Language (1999). Li Yaru et al (2003) hold the view that the floatingpopulation refers to the leaving from of the original place of census register to thenon-household location and engagement in various activities. In short, floating populationrefers to those people who are the separation between the permanent location and householdregistration.
