Abstract
多元化的经济发展占有重要的地位，很多学者都做了大量的研究，随着经济的快速发展，世界的金融整合在中国经济市场也有着重大的影响，中国在车架号入中国世界贸易组织的近几年来，其发展的重点就是要提高多元化的发展。
Diversification occupies an important position in the development of enterprise that many scholars have done a great deal of researches on the diversification and the effects of diversified enterprises. With the rapid development of world finance integration as well as the gradual opening of Chinese financial market after China’s accession to WTO in recent years, China’s commercial banks continuously increasing emphasis on diversification that develop non-interest income and generate other types of non-interest income.

This paper starts with the surveys of recent literatures both from foreign countries and China, and reviews the general principles of diversification. It also analyzes the effects of diversification on commercial banks which including positive and negative effects. This paper selects 13 Chinese commercial banks as the research samples and uses the data to carry out the empirical analysis on diversification and the relationships between diversification, performance and risk from year 1998 to year 2008 which provided by annual reports of banks. Two different models used in this paper to conclude the results that there is a small positive correlation between diversification and performance of commercial banks, but diversification can not reduce the risks and the effects of diversification does not significant to commercial banks. The results indicate that it is not the best time for China’s commercial banks to develop diversification extensively.

Finally, this paper gives some suggestions on how to implement the diversification and improve the performance of diversified commercial banks.
