By analyzing the results of pre-test and post-test, it is proved that Phonics is an effective and efficient way to help students in vocabulary learning. Although the traditional method can also help students to memorize the words, Phonics has more advantages than the traditional method. The specific findings are as follows: Firstly, there is little difference between traditional method and Phonics in short-time vocabulary learning. After one week’s teaching, it is obvious that Phonics can improve most of students in vocabulary learning. In the first post-test, which is held after one week teaching, the students made a big progress compared with pre-test. Each student’s performance has been improved. Therefore, it can be concluded that Phonics is an effective method for improving primary school students’ short-term vocabulary learning. At the same time, the control group made almost the same progress with the experimental group. In a short time, for the traditional way stimulating their brain by requiring the students to repeat the words over and over again, we can infer that the traditional way is also effective method for short-term vocabulary learning. Secondly, Phonics has more advantages than the traditional method in long-time vocabulary learning. The precise data shows that the experimental group gets the higher scores than control group. Compared with the first post-test, the experiment and control group students get a little lower score. That probably because long time has past, there could be some decrease in the test. In addition, compared with the pre-test, the control group also makes progress in the second post-test, the progress is slight, while the experimental group still has a big advance than pre-test. In a word, Phonics emphasizes the connection between the spelling and pronunciation of words, which is more understandable and easier for students to learn the words. Therefore, when the students master the rule of letters’ pronunciation, they can apply it in the other situation, at the same time, memorize the words in a long time. On the contrary, the control group conducting the traditional method to memorize the words mechanically and even if the students can memorize the words by repeating, they cannot memorize for good.
