Chapter Four ANALYSIS OF THE TWO CHINESE VERSIONS
4.1 Analysis from Horizon of Expectations of Children Readers
Children’s special social experience, education, previous reading activity, interest, language use habit and many other aspects formed their unique horizon. They are at the primary cognitive level, so they have special expectations for reading materials. Usually they would like to read books with colorful image, simple plots and understandable language. In the area of translation, in order to make the work interesting and attractive to children readers, translators should take measures to meet children readers’ direct expectation. However, on the other hand, reading is also an important platform for children to gain new knowledge, so it is necessary to for translators to adopt expressions full of culture elements to push children’s horizon forward and meet their creative expectations. Readers will get some kind of directed expectations based on their previous experiences. It is the knowledge already stored in readers’ mind that can be used as a guide during their reading process. Readers are likely to accept something familiar to them. Children’s directed expectations are far behind that of adult due to their limited education, so it is important to know their special needs of literature works at special stage. If the reading material is contrary to their pre-experience, children readers would unlike to complete the reading and get satisfied. Usually interesting language form, simple and funnier plots can better meet children’s directed expectation.

CONCLUSIONS
Under the guidance of reception aesthetics, the thesis makes a comparative study on the two Chinese versions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from horizon of expectations of children readers, readers’ role and status and indeterminacy. On the one hand, it validates the feasibility of reception aesthetics applied in children’s literature translation. On the other hand, it aims to provoke more attention to the theoretical study of children
