ature translation under the guidance of reception aesthetics. The significance of the research can be reflected in three aspects. Firstly, the research on the translation of children’s literature is at marginal position no matter at home and abroad and it did not get enough attention for a long time. Focusing on the versions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the welcomed children’s literature, it is hoped that the thesis will encourage more scholars to pay attention to children’s literature translation. Secondly, it is a new attempt that this thesis aims to make a systematic and theoretical research in the area of children’s literature translation, taking two Chinese versions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a case study. It is helpful to the research on the translated versions of the novel and enlarges the theoretic foundation on its Chinese translations. Thirdly, the research on children’s literature translation did not get enough attention compared with other kinds of literature translation, let alone the research from the perspective of reception aesthetics. It will help to deepen people’s understanding of reception aesthetics and its enlightenment on translation. It will provide a brand-new way and perspective for children’s literature translation studies.

2.1 Previous Studies of Children’s Literature Translation abroad and at Home
For a long time, children’s literature translation has been in a subordinate status compared with other literature genres. In the recent years, stimulated by the literature research and translation studies, great achievement has been made on the research of children’s literature translation both abroad and at home. It presents diverse and interdisciplinary characteristics and becomes wider in research perspectives. In Western countries, with the emerging of descriptive translation school and German functional translation school, the focus of translation research has been transferred from the source text to target language, which provides a new way for translation research. Klingberg (1969) published a paper Children’s Literature in the Hands of Translators and it was the first time that children’s literature translation was studied.
