摘要:本文是英语阅读论文,本研究将探讨教师如何运用不同的视觉语篇模式,从逻辑语义关系的角度来阐述、延伸和提高教师话语实现教学功能。
Chapter 1 Introduction
This chapter begins with an introduction to the research background, focusing on the necessity of further study on multimodal discourse analysis of English language MOOC from the perspective of logico-semantic relations. Then, it outlines the purpose of the present study in relation to the benefits of the research of the relations between visual texts and teacher’s talk to classroom teaching and multimodal discourse analysis. On the basis of the research purpose, the author proposes the research questions concerning how visual texts in College English Reading MOOC are deployed to elaborate, extend and enhance the teacher’s talk. Then, the significance of the study is described, followed by the layout of the
thesis in the end.
1.1 Research Background
Since Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) launched the Open Courseware Movement and provided more than 2000 courses on the Internet for free in 2001, many world top universities including Harvard University, Yale University and Stanford University have joined the Movement gradually (Wang & Dou 2014). This laid a foundation of the emergence of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). Furthermore, Salman Khan established “Khan Academy” in 2007, which was a non-profit organization providing videos of different subjects online (Yuan & Ma 2004). After the establishment of this organization, more and more people showed their increasing interests in it. Therefore, this organization accelerated the emergence of MOOC (Wang & Dou 2014). The following year witnessed the emergence of the term “MOOC” put forward by Dave Cormier and Bryan Alexander. After that, a large amount of MOOC platforms have been gradually established including the Cousrera, Udacity, edx and so on and have attracted millions of students. Meanwhile, the MOOC plays increasingly important role in the field of
Education all over the world (Wang & Dou 2014). Therefore, it has drawn increasing attention among researchers both at home and aboard (Kop 2011; Stephen 2013; Wang 2013; Han 2013; Fan 2012; Liu &Chen 2013; Wang 2013; Pan 2013; Zhi 2015; Yang &Wei & Zhang 2015; Luo 2016; Liu & Zhai & Ma 2016).
