Süleyman YAMA (2005) considers logical thinking ability as a person's ability to solve problems through mental operations or to reach principles or rules through some kind of generalization or abstraction.

According to Nazan Sezen (2011), the process of logical thinking is the process of getting ideas, facts and results of a problem and putting them in order. Logical thinking prevents children from saying “I don't know, this is too hard”, and this ability makes them understand better and reach the solution on their own by thinking more deeply.

Maharani, Darhim, Sabandar, Herman (2019) believe that logical thinking ability is the ability to solve problems, using technical logic and reasoning. 

In summary, logical thinking ability is the ability to think correctly and rationally to solve problems and to express one's thinking process rationally. Or the ability to reach principles and rules through some kind of generalization or abstraction.

2.2 Related Studies on Logical Thinking Ability

So far, studies of logical thinking ability by scholars at home and abroad have shown that logical thinking ability is very important for English learners.

The following literature review is about studies on logical thinking ability

2.2.1 Studies on Logical Thinking Ability in Writing at Home 

At present, many scholars have found that students commit many logical problems in writing, the cause is logical thinking ability is neglected in the teaching of English writing in China.

(1) Study of Logical Thinking Ability in English writing 

Li Yuying and Xi Hayu (2010) find that in English writing teaching, teachers tend to focus on language training and neglect the more important training of logical thinking, thus causing logical problems in writing such as language incomprehension and unclear topics. In the teaching of English writing, teachers should consciously and purposefully cultivate students' logical thinking ability. Students should follow the basic laws of logic, such as the law of identity and the law of contradiction, to ensure that they do not make logical problems such as off-topic and self-contradictions. Ultimately, students' writing can be structured in a clear hierarchy, and the material and sentences are well connected.

Ding Lingling (2013) suggests that logical problems in students' writing are caused by a lack of logical thinking ability. Ding believes that the writing process reflects the student's logic, and that logic is present in the discourse and in the sentences. Also, logical connectors can reflect logic.
