bsp;which  is  a  both  syntagmatic  and  paradigmatic  relation.  From  then  on,  many  studies  make different arguments from many different levels (Fellbaum, 1995; Willners, 2001; Jones, 2002; Jones, 2006; Murphy  &Jones  2008;  Paradis  et al. 2009).  To  sum  up,  the  research  of  antonym  co-occurrence frequency becomes  a  deep  and  hot  study.  After  verifying  the  high  frequency  of  AC  firstly,  scholars  propose  the co-occurrence  hypothesis  by  overturning  the  previous  substitution  hypothesis,  which  has  been demonstrated  from  many  layers.  The  demonstration  refers  to  different  parts  of  speech  of  antonyms.  The sentence  length  and  register  where  antonyms  co-occur  have  also  been  involved  in  the  related  studies.  All the studies mentioned above prove that antonymy is not only the substitution on paradigmatic axis, but also the co-occurrence on syntagmatic axis.

5.1 Antonym co-occurrence in WECCL and SECCL 

The  data  of  this  chapter  is  from  the  first  step  mentioned  in  chapter  four.  It  is  necessary  to  recall this step.  It  is  to  search  the  56  antonymous  pairs  which  Jones(2002)  used  to  examine  a  large  corpus  with 280-million-words of Independent newspaper text one by one within the span of fifteen in all the texts of SECCL and WECCL  using  software  Ant Conc3.2.1w. These  56 antonymous  pairs are  used  by the  relative authoritative studies at home and abroad. They are showed in in appendix 1.
