he present studies on Spring Festival couplets in Chapter Two. It is observed that most  of  the  literature  on  Spring  Festival  couplets  focuses  on  Chinese  linguistic  literature, folklore, sociology and teaching of Chinese. All these viewpoints lay stress on static language forms  of  Spring  Festival  couplets,  rather  than  study  its  dynamic  process  of  meaning construction.   This  thesis  is  a  tentative  study  on  Spring  Festival  couplets  from  the  field  of cognitive linguistics. Through the analysis, the main findings can be summed up as follows: Firstly,  by  virtue  of  adopting  Conceptual  Blending  Theory  to  analyze  the  meaning construction  of  Spring  Festival  couplets,  the  author  finds  that  it  is  feasible.  The  thesis illustrates  an  important  theory  of  cognitive  linguistics---Conceptual  Blending  Theory  in  the studies  of  Spring  Festival  couplets  to  interpret  the  meaning  of  Spring  Festival  couplets.  It turns out that when appreciating a pair of Spring Festival couplet, the readers are inclined to use  conceptual  elements  related  to  fortune,  happiness,  harmonious  and  blessing  concepts  to construct mental spaces. Since Spring Festival couplets are pasted up during Spring Festival, a  space  of  background  information  is  projected  into  the  blending  space  to  fulfill  the  on-line meaning  construction  and  obtain  the  blended  meaning.  Therefore,  it  can  be  seen  that Conceptual  Blending  Theory  provides  a  new  perspective  to  do  research  on  Spring  Festival couplets.
