5.1 Major Findings of this Research
Based on the comparative studies on the multimodal advertisements of Apple on Apple (US) and Apple (Chinese Mainland), and some possible reason discussions about the translation characteristics of multimodal advertisements from Apple (US) to Apple (Chinese Mainland) from the perspective of Postcolonial Translation Theory, major findings were revealed:
In order to answer Question 1, the researcher has analyzed the multimodal advertisements of Apple on Apple (US) based on both verbal and non-verbal analysis, and found that the language on Apple (US) is in English; the advertising texts on Apple (US) have many connotations about “power” and are full of cultural elements with the characteristics of the United States; the advertising pictures on Apple (US) have demonstrated many people who don’t keep a direct eye contact with customers, and whose facial expressions look self-centered, cool and indifferent. Besides, although most postures and gestures in advertising pictures are positive, there still exist some negative ones which may be understood or unacceptable for some customers. What’s more, most people in advertising pictures are female, and are mainly from the black and white race in the United States or some western countries. In addition, the spacing colors of advertisements are mainly black and white, and the shots of angle are most equal to the eye level of customers, but there still exist many pictures whose shots of angle are at the elevated eye level, which show the culture of “individualism” of the United States. In addition, the advertising videos are full of cultural elements such as coffee and bread, architectures, music and dances and so on with the Euro-American characteristics.
