摘要:本文是一篇高中英语论文,本研究试图从系统功能语言学视角分析高中英语课堂的多模态导入,并为课堂导入的多模态教学提供一些建议。
Based on the research data and findings from questionnaire and classroomobservation,this study tends to provide practical meaning construction and examples ofmulti-modal teaching so that educational scholars and English teachers can get somerelevant suggestions for optimizing lead-in to facilitate multi-modal classroom teaching.
Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 Definitions of key concepts
In this section,definitions of lead-in,multi-modality and multi-modal analysisdiscourse(MDA)are presented.
2.1.1 Definitions of lead-in
The definitions of lead-in vary among the different researchers.Turney(1975)proposed classroom lead-in.Meanwhile,he also concluded that the function of classroomlead-in is to attract students’attention,arouse students’learning motivation,create aconnection between old and new knowledge,construct teaching goals,and set learninggoals.“The lead-in of new courses refers to“guide”and“entry.”“lead-in”means to guide,and“entry”means to enter into learning”.(Shao Xifang and Ouyang,2002)Li Sen(2005)hold the view that“lead-in is the essential psychological and physiological awakening ofthe students for the upcoming teaching activities.”
In general,the lead-in part is therefore the 3-5 minutes before the start of new content.It is a bridge that establishes links between old and new knowledge,and stimulatesstudents’curiosity.Besides,it has far-reaching implications for the subsequentdevelopment of the whole teaching.
2.2 Previous research on lead-in
Previous studies on lead-in abroad and at home are introduced in this section.
2.2.1 Previous research on lead-in abroad
Around the 1970s,foreign scholars began to address the issues about classroomlead-in,Roger Gower&Steve Waters(1983)conducted many researches with thevarious methods which should be adopted when“starting the lesson”in teaching skillsfrom the perspective of various lesson examples.
The American educational psychologist Slavin(2004),based on the law of humanphysical and mental development,pointed out that when teachers carried out classroomlead-in,they should grasp the points of interest of students,and arouse students’curiosityso as to make students full of interest and expectation for the courses followed.
Richard Barwell(2006)held the view that effective classroom lead-in could drawstudents’attention to upcoming content of learning in a concise and clear way so as toeffectively conduct classroom activities.
Heather Marsden and Roumyana Slabakova(2019)made the claim that foreignlanguage teaching emphasized cultivating students’communicative competence,and moreand more teachers realized that lead-in plays an important role for further languagelearning.
