Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
This section starts from the requirements of the new curriculum standard onEnglish extracurricular reading,combines with the anxiety factors that affect students’reading ability,and finds out the possibility of the influence of sustained silent readingon English reading anxiety through sorting up the researches on other dependentvariables.Thus,the hypothesis of the independent variable versus the dependentvariable in this study is clarified,namely,the correlation between sustained silentreading and English reading anxiety.
In the first place,the promulgation of English Curriculum Standards for SeniorHigh Schools(2017 edition)provides a new direction and reference for a new roundof English curriculum reform.Many front-line English teachers and researchers areactively engaged in educational practice to explore ways to cultivate students’Englishcore competency.The core quality of English discipline is the embodiment of theeducational value of the subject,which is composed of four sub-objectives:languageability,cultural awareness,and thinking quality as well as learning ability.In addition,language skills include listening,speaking,reading and viewing as well as writing.Inthe college entrance examination in China,English reading occupies a moresignificant score,as high as 40 points,which shows that reading occupies an essentialposition in English learning.The discourse is an indispensable carrier for Englishlearning in the six-element integrated English curriculum content.The importance ofEnglish reading in cultivating students’core competency is self-evident.The new curriculum standard clearly stipulates that the average amount of Englishextracurricular reading for high school students is no less than 1,500 words per week(no less than 45,000 words at the compulsory course stage).However,to achieve theamount of reading required by the curriculum standard,it is not enough to rely onEnglish textbooks and ordinary reading comprehension practice.Liu and Miao(2010)found that there is still a considerable distance between high school students’Englishextracurricular reading and the curriculum standards’requirements through theinvestigation of the English extracurricular reading of high school students.Thequality and quantity of students’extracurricular reading need to be improved withouthesitation.
1.2 Research Purpose
At present,student’s after-school reading sources are mostly limited to readingcomprehension questions in various types of examination papers,and the purpose ofreading is restricted to answering boring standardized questions.As a result,althoughstudents spend a lot of time,the amount of reading is still minimal,and there is littleprogress.Gradually,the students lose interest in reading and the confidence to learnEnglish well.In the process of English learning,various learning anxiety problems areoften generated.It is inevitable but normal that there are differences in the readinglevel of students in one class.The one-size-fits-all approach is undoubtedly a burdenfor students,causing them to be anxious.Anxiety will make students to be bored andresistant to English reading,so that they will lose interest in reading.In the long run,it is not conducive to cultiv本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
