摘要:Ever since the reform and opening up,the teaching of English in primary and middleschools in China have experience a continuous advancement in the quality of education.However, there are significant gaps between the current situation of English education inprimary and secondary schools and the goal of updating talent trainin.

r, the corpus in the past is not operated by computers, and peopleneed to copy the sentences required on cards or slips of paper and then retrieve the corpus.Therefore, we can only call this kind of phenomenon corpus approach rather than themodem corpus.Someone defines the corpus as the warehouse of language material,which is notenough to explain the characteristic of the corpus.The corpus cannot be used without computer retrieval. Computer has a powerfulsearch function, which is superior to human being. Although there is a lot of text incorpus, computers can search the corpus as easy as winking. Therefore, some people thinkthat the term "corpus linguistics" should be replaced with "computer corpus linguistics"(Leech 1997:1).The collection of corpus text is carried out in accordance with certain principles. Ofthe British National Corpus (BNC^, written language accounts for 90%, and oral languageaccounts for 10%,and the structure of the whole corpus can be shown in table2. BrownCorpus does not include spoken language, and its way of collecting written language ismuch different from that of BNC whose structure can be shown in HeAnping(2004:141-143). The text length of BNC is uneven, ranging from 25 words to436048 words; however, the text length of Brown Corpus is fixed at around 2000 wordsand the excess text will be deleted. The average text length of LOB Corpus whosestructure is the same as that of Brown Corpus is around 2013 words.

2.2 Domestic Research Related to Cultural Teaching
In China, the formal formulation of "culture teaching” was seen in relevant literatureon linguistics and culture studies in the early 1990s. People who are interested incross-cultural communication are mainly those who take up language teaching and theyjust mainly focus on something related to language communication, such as vocabulary,pragmatics and social custom. It is not until the early 1980s that "culture teaching,,wasintroduced into China as a subject. In China, the early introduction of the study of thissubject was seen in Xu Guozhang's paper on language and culture published in ModernForeign Language No.4: The Cultural Connotations of Vocabulary and the EnglishTeaching, And the paper mainly focuses on the relationship between the culturalconnotations of vocabulary and translation. In Introducing an Emerging Science —Cross-cultural Communication^ He Daokuan regards intercultural communication as aspecial theory of comparative culture, which studies cross-cultural verbal and non-verbalcommunication, especially the application of the subject. Apart from that,Professor HuWenzhong has made great contributions to China's research and transmission onintercultural communication. He not only gave forth a series of papers in succession oncomprehensive introduction of the development of intercultural communication, study ofthe relationship between foreign language teaching and cross-cultural communication andhow to carry out the study of cross-cultural communication, but also edited and compiledtwo collections of theses, namely. Cross-cultural Communication and English Learning(1988),Culture and Communication (1994) and a dictionary, namely. The Dictionary ofAmerican and British Culture (1995).
