值得我们去探索和研究。
新英语文学的存在和发展印证了这样一个事实,英语世界化伴随着一个民族过程,这个过
程是无法逆转的。新英语文学是民族的书面英语成熟的标志,通过它我们能够了解英语变体的
面貌,从而认识英语正在经历的民族化过程。
从尼日利亚和印度的例子可以看出,新英语文学的选材、主题和预设读者都具有本土性,
因此它不是英美文学的翻版或摹写,而是用英语创作的民族文学。当其被用于语言教育,教师
的职责是引导学生使用本民族的大众化的英语;当其被用于文学教育,教师的任务是培养学生
的民族情感和审美趣味。
作为一个专门领域,新英语文学研究只有二十多年历史,人们尚知之不多。我们应当积极
努力,尽早在我国把这项工作开展起来。
