f’s are Hindley, a heavy drinker and gambler , and Edward Linton, a delicate country squires, who buries himself in the sadness of his wife’s death. Therefore, when they have their revenge, Edmond behaves more discreetly and cautiously while Heathcliff shows his hostilities exposedly and nakedly.
As a result of this, Edmond makes acquaintance with them with the help of his title, the count of Monte Cristo but not his true name— Edmond Dantes, his wealth, and his great learning. By means of the three things, he gives them a good and deep impression and even rouses their curiosity towards him. Some of them even consider him as friend. All his success bases on his benefit to Albert and acquaintance with him, which are rightly his wise act. Generally, in this round he gets familiar with them by acting as benefactor of them. To Fernand, he saves his son from kidnapping of Luigi Vampa; to Villefort, he saves his wife and son from the carriage drawn by mad horses; to Danglars, he sakes him from Madame Dangler’s anger by sending back the horse that he buys from him at the price of 16.000 francs under no conditions. However, it is he who causes all these misfortunes of them, such as Albert’s kidnapping, Madame Villefort and her son’s incident. Through these, he is successful in arousing their attentions. In the following round, he uses appropriate flatteries and great learning to conquer his enemies. After this careful preparations, he keeps in touch with them and meanwhile begins his revenge. He takes revenge on them silently and furtively by paying proper visits and taking advantage of information supplied by their talks with him. During his visits and talks with them, he acts as a good man to comfort them but in fact he makes things much worse. In the following climax, he frightens Madame Danglars and Villefort badly by telling the terrible true story between them by way of his feast. Simultaneously, he leaves people more interested in him by doing what they consider impossible. Next he makes use of two visionary people to remove Villefort’s doubt. Finally he gives them a fatal blow .To Fernand, he makes him notorious and deserted by his wife and son; to Villefort, he makes him notorious and mad; to Danglars, he makes him nothing. Until at this time, they know who he is. While spiteful Heathcliff shows his trick on Isabella to Catherine openly, his crafty plan for his son and little Catherine exposedly to Nelly, and his intrigue against Hareton as a way of revenge on Hindley nakedly to Nelly. Despite above differences, in the course of revenge they all show their boldness, cunningness, and so on.
In brief, as far as we discuss above, during revenge Heathliff loses his reason owing to his stronger hatred while Edmond is between love and hatred. So their intensity in love and hatred is quite different. This leads to their various behaviours in love and hatred. And meanwhile they have many similarities in love and hatred thanks to their similar experiences and same failure in love. Nevertheless their love and hatred end up the triumph of love over hatred for love is powerful.
