dies, windows must be opened to let the soul out (Because people think that the soul can exist in a space, and it can go to another world.) B. Superstitions in Western Countries Superstitions don’t only exist in the eastern countries, the western countries even go beyond. In the west, an old superstition says that yawning is caused by the devil and that evil spirits enter the body when your mouth is open wide. Covering your mouth stops them. Moreover, the superstitious people said the spirits often turn into the animals, in particular, black cats, and the black cats can bring them bad luck. They think that the black cat is from the witch. In many European countries, it is worth encouraging lifting the hand to touch the hat, because it can bring happiness to you. But if you have not the luck, you had to experience many bad luck matters in one day when you turn the hat to upside down. If you arrived in westerner’s home, you are not careful to place the hat on his bed, it is very dangerous, because they think that it can bring sorrow to life. Moreover the umbrella is similar with the hat, but the umbrella is more complex. When you arrive in westerner’s house, some matters are absolutely forbidden. Such as , you can’t open the umbrella in the house, because that can bring disaster of the life to the host. Besides the hat and the umbrella, another trouble some thing is the shoe. When the westerners go out, putting on the shoe of the left is the most dangerous. This is superstition which is spread since old time. To most families, the birth of twins is an exceptional and thrilling event. To the superstitious, however, it may be interpreted as a sin. They view it as the birth of deities, and the twins are worshiped. If one or both of the twins should die, small statues of the twins are made, and the family must offer food to these idols. Elsewhere, people view the birth of twins as a curse, to the point that some parents will kill at least one of them. Why? They believe that if both twins survive, they will one day murder their parents. C. Superstitions in China Looking back into Chinese history, superstitions have been playing an important role as a part of Chinese culture although some people think that’s silly and ignorance. Since Liberation, our economic potentiality is expanding step by step, and the scientific cultural level is enhancing day by day. But, the superstitious thoughts are always in the society, and there are many superstitions in China from the past to the present. Such as , Feng Shui, Ren Qi, and Temples. They always affect people’s life for a long time. 1. “Feng Shui” The ancient art of feng shui has been practiced in China for thousand of years. In China, traditional buildings (like the Forbidden City in Beijing) were designed according to feng shui principles. In ancient China, the Emperor would consult his imperial advisors regarding political, military and personal issues such as: · the building of imperial palaces, burial sites and temples · the building of new cities and public infrastructures · selecting of auspicious dates for worshipping rituals to seek blessing from heaven for a good harvest and for peace of the kingdom · the waging of war and the directional movement of troops According to Chinese belief, the success of a person depends on 5 main factors: destiny, luck, feng shui, charitable deeds, and education. It is very common for us to blame it on our fate and luck when things are n论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
