their customs and festivals to the British. One of these was the festival known as Pomona Day. It was also celebrated around the 1st of November of the Celtic festival and the Roman Pomona Day mixed and become one major fall holiday.
The next influence came with the spread of the new Christian religion throughout Europe and Britain. In the year 835 AD the Roman Catholic Church would make November 1st a church holiday to honor all the saints. This day was called All Saint’s Day, or Hallowmas, or All Hallows. Over the years the customs from all these holidays mixed. October31st become known as All Hallow Even, eventually then—Halloween.
The Halloween we celebrate today includes all of these influences, Pomona Day’s apples, nuts, and harvest, the Festival of Samhain’s black cats, magic, evil spirits and death, and the ghosts, skeletons and skulls from All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day.
At present, Halloween doesn’t have the superstitious color at all. It has become children’s holiday. Young people hold costume balls. The Pumpkin Patches are celebration symbols and “Trick or Treating” is their slogan of Halloween. Many pictures of Halloween are lovely and kindly, and most of them are funny, such as, witches, black cats. The old story has been forgotten by people constantly. Halloween has been a joyful festival in people’s heart. The society is also making the positive guidance to the holiday activity continuously: it requests adult to educate the children not to make the threatening practical joke, also requests adult to lead the children to go out.( Adults stop their cars by the roadside; children knock on a door and ask for sweets). Moreover the children have to stand in the front of door in the process, not entering the room. On the festival, students usually go to school as usual. Sometimes the school can hold a party; sometimes the students who are unwilling to keep silent can also organize a small party. Between friends and the family members, a greeting card has become popular custom every October. Now the Internet is so developed that delivering cards is more convenient and economic. Some websites have also designed kinds of animation card. Often it is free for everybody. In a word, Halloween has become an ordinary and seasonal holiday for the westerners. Many people regard it as the end of fall and the arrival of winter.

There was a popular folk tale about how the monk, MuNian, saved his mother from suffering. MuNian had great magic power.
