3.介绍感恩节的由来

In 1620,a boat filled with more than 100 people sailedacross the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World(新大陆).They had arrived too late to grow many crops,and with-out fresh food,half the colony died from diseases.The fol-lowing spring Indians taught them how to grow and showedthem how to hunt and fish.There was a good harvest in theautumn of 1621.The colonists had much to be thankful,so afeast was planned.The local Indians had been invited to takepart in.In the following years,many of the original colonistscelebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks.Yearslater,President of the United States proclaimed the fourthThursday of November as Thanksgiving Day every year.Thecelebration of Thanksgiving Day has been observed on thatdate until today.

4.感恩节的变化

如今的感恩节已演变成美国人全家团聚的日子。

Today the holiday is a time of family reunions,paradesand watching football games on television.For millions ofAmericans,Thanksgiving is a day that they spent cooking,eating and talking.For some families,Thanksgiving may bethe only time of year when family members get together.

从中西传统节日可以看出,中国传统节日多以岁时节令为主,侧重世俗性,体现着中国人的美德、风尚,尊老爱幼,互叙亲情,是中华民族的优良传统。西方传统节日关注宗教人物和事件,具有较浓的宗教性,表现的是人们的互动性、众人参与性、狂欢性等,以自我为中心,崇尚个性张扬。

在英语教学中有意识培养学生比较中、西方文化差异,有助于学生避免用本国的文化、道德、价值观作为标准去衡量、评判异国文化,避免拒绝任何异国文化狭隘的民族主义态度;提高自己鉴别、鉴赏异国文化的能力,提高对本国文化的敏感性,加深对本国文化的理解和认识,提高文化底蕴。
