Ⅰ.Introduction    

In recent years, a hot word is getting closer and closer to people’s daily life,which is supposed to bring magic change to parents, teachers and children.This hot word, named bilingual education, actually has greatly effected kids’school life as well as teachers’teaching experience.        

To explore the nature of this hot word and discover the related elements of this wildly spreaded phenomena, the paper focuses on bilingual education to see what the prospective picture of bilingual education possibly be, by studying  its’definition;  by presenting its’background; by demonstrating the history of bilingual education in China and America; by comparing bilingual education in various areas in the world; by conducting some case study concerning bilingual education within and beyond of Sichuan province.

Ⅱ.Define bilingual education      

According to a well-known scholar, Wangbinghua, who comes from East China Normal University, various definitions can be got. One of authoritative definitions is given by Longman Dictionary of Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics: “the use of a second or foreign language in school for the teaching of content subjects.①  

In this definition, language is treated as important tools improving teaching level among syllabus overall. Also bilingual education isn’t limited within English and any mother tongue only, for foreign language includes many kinds of languages except for English. Moreover, the definition stresses that foreign language should be treated as teaching language and demonstrating language.   Bilingual education is quite different from bilingual teaching.
