1.2 Research Significance
The lexical chunk approach and vocabulary learning can be combined in the process of a foreign language learning, especially at the very beginning stage. The effects of lexical chunk of English vocabulary teaching are described as follows. Based on the lexical chunk teaching approach, the encoding system of English vocabulary can establish the connection of one word with another word, which shares similar concepts. Lexical chunk can not only enhance their memorization of words but also improve their word extraction abilities. That is to say, it makes it possible that students can create fluent English expressions timely when they have the need to extract the words from memory. Meanwhile, the encoding system memory of lexical chunks can avoid the vapidity and inefficiency of mechanical memory. It is difficult for students to transmit information in English. However, such kind of problems can be perfectly solved by learning abundant lexical chunks. When a large quantity of lexical chunks are stored in students’ mind, they can easily express themselves which makes them feel good and greatly mobilize the enthusiasm for foreign language acquisition. Due to the specific pragmatic functions of lexical chunks, students can communicate with people fluently when they memorize the lexical chunks, and they naturally have a great sense of satisfaction, which will mobilize their enthusiasm for vocabulary learning greatly.

Chapter Two Literature Review
Since 1990, a lot of researches on English vocabulary teaching and learning have been done by various experts and scholars at home and abroad. This kind of research takes notice of all the five parts of learning language, namely listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. In this chapter, some related studies on English vocabulary teaching both at home and abroad will be mainly introduced by the author, including their ideas and famous representatives.
2.1 Definition of Lexical Chunk
Vocabularies are divided into two parts by conventional linguistics, that is, free combination of words that can be explained by grammatical rules and fixed phrase which can not be explained by the grammar rules. Because English words are regular, productive composite units, while fixed phrases are non-biodegrdable, degraded and independent language units.
