Abstract：It is widely accepted that the distinctive style of an author is the best manifestation of hisor her consummate creativeness, and the success of literary translation largely depends onwhether the style is vividly reproduced or not. This thesis is a tentative study of how totransmigrate the humorous style of Pride & Prejudice into Chinese. While adoptingequivalent effect translation theory put forward by Jin Di as a guiding principle, it alsoseeks theoretical help from a branch of linguistics}iterary stylistics, which proves to behighly enlightening in the practice of fictional translation.
      Following a general introduction in chapter 1, Chapter 2 makes a brief survey oh thetheories to be involved in the stu办.Literary stylistics is defcned as a disciplinemediating between literary criticism and linguistics. The purpose of a stylistician is toexplicate how the writer'，verbal man动ulation produces or contributes to the totalmeaning of the work, based on a linguistic knowledge of the workings of language. It ison account of its penetrating linguistic observations and insights that stylistic analysismakes significant contribution to the translation of literary discourse.
      Chapter 3 carries out an investigation on the features of Jane Austen' s humor,focusing on the workings of stylistic devices in the production of the humorous effect.Based on that, in Chapter 4, literary stylistics is applied as an effective tool fordetecting problems occurring in style translation, as well as a convincing remedy fortheir solutions. From the evidence of both the negative and the positive renderingspresented in Chapter 4, it is clear that an adequate analysis of the functions ofstylistic devices is crucial to the avoidance of deceptive equivalence and theproduction of equivalent effect translation.
    Chapter 5 summarizes the whole study, and reiterates the conclusion that applyingstylistic analysis can help translators to achieve stylistic equivalence. Limitations of thethesis are also pointed out, together with suggestions for further research efforts.
中文摘要：小说的文体风格传译，是文学翻译中的重要课题。申丹在其专著《文学文体学与小说翻译》中，从语言形式和文学阐释入手，把小说文体研究与翻译批评结合起来，在国内外翻译界都有一定的开创性意义。受其启发，本文作者选取简•奥斯丁的代表作《傲慢与偏见》及其两个中译本作为比较分析对象，来尝试探讨小说翻译中文体风格对等问题。
     本文主要内容简介如下:
     第一章为引言，介绍本文的写作目的，即采用文学文体学作为研究方法，探讨 《傲慢与偏见》中幽默风格的等效翻译。
     第二章分析界定了等效翻译和文学文体学的一些基本理论问题。文学文体学特指以阐释文学文本的主题意义和美学价值为目的的文体学派，注重探讨作者如何通过对语言的选择来表达和加强主题意义和美学效果。该学派认为采用现代语言学的理论和方法有助于更好地掌握语言结构，更深入地理解语言的作用，对语言特征作出精确、系统的描写。文体学的理论观点对小说翻译的批评和实践来说，具有重要的指导意义。
      第三章从宏观和微观两个层面对《傲慢一与偏见》中的幽默风格进行研究，作为第四章案例分析的基础。 
      第四章是本文论述的重点，着重探讨了小说翻译中的一个突出问题”假象对等”。所谓假象对等，是指译文与原文表面看起来所指相同，但实际文学意义或美学价值不同。译者往往忽视原文中偏离常规的语言成分所具有的文体价值，翻译时在词汇、句式或修辞上缺乏相应的处理，造成译文中文体价值的缺损。通过对若干译例的分析，笔者认为，如果译者展开深入的文体分析，注重从语言形式与主题意义的关系入手来解决问题，许多假象对等是完全可以避免的。
     最后一章总结了全文，并重中了结论，即文学文体学对小说翻译批评与实践具有重要的指导价值。
