Introduction

In the current customer market, people are always on the horns of a dilemma when making their suitable options among large numbers of products. From the manufacturer’s perspective, to meet customers’ satisfaction or be welcomed by the target markets, the new idea is supposed to be tested critically via a complex process and errors in any step may get the company into the woeful predicament of the current management. Without the innovation of new products, the enterprises are destined to be eliminated in the fierce competition. However, the development and promotion of the newproducts inevitably has great risk (Swink and Song, 2007).

在当前的客户市场,当人们总是处于进退两难的境地时,需要在大量的产品之间进行合适的选择。从制造商的视角来看,为了能够适应客户的满意度或被目标市场所欢迎,需要经过复杂的检验过程提出新的理念,错误的理念可能让公司的经营现状陷入困境。没有新产品的创新,企业需要在激烈的竞争中被淘汰。然而,新产品的开发和推广的必然有极大风险。(辛劳和歌曲,2007)。


Consequently How to reduce and avoid unnecessary risks is of vital importance to every company and they must confront during the process of new product development. It is effective for companies to reduce risks and confirm the commercial potential by conducting fully tests on new products or services. Does the new product or service have commercial potential? Could the innovation make contribution to meet an existing societal need? Significant commercial potential refers to the prospect of sales and profit on a large enough scale to make all the risk brought by the idea worth taking. When running commercial potential commercial potential in particular, the strong evidence that the product will realize maximum profits is in need as millions of investment may input to promote the commodity in the market. In business, without prudent study concerning commercial potential, nobody can affirm that the good is a guaranteed winner.

This essay will firstly illustrate two factors to analyze a certain product’s commercial potential. And then, two parts will be listed respectively to show the mentioned methods in detail. Finally, the essay will take a product as an example to manifest the application of the two tests in brief.

The analysis of commercial potential

All factors affecting the commercial potential can be divided into two dimensions: the internal factors of product and the external environment. The internal factors of the new product may be analyzed in four parts: product features, channels of distribution, sales promotion and the price. Take the medicine as an example. The internal factors consist of indications, side effects, purchase environment, reimbursement ratio and so forth. Another major factor affecting the commercial potential is the external environment, and undoubtedly, the factors are difficult to monitor and evaluate as they are much more complex and more unpredictable. The external environment factors can be divided into two aspects: the macro-environment and the micro-environment. The former offers more vital commercial opportunities which may be collected from the government policy, technical progress, the global economic situation. While the latter means the specific competitive environment of the enterprise, and the influence of its change on sales in the coming future is relatively more direct.
