1.1 Necessity of the Research
However, with the rapid development of the skills of communication, peoplebegin to realize that communication doesn't only means making one's ideas clear tobe understood, but also how to express oneself in a good way. When we talk aboutcertain topics, we tend to use mild, indirect or polite words to replace those that wemay feel ashamed to directly refer to. For example, when we talk about someone'sdeath, we will use the expressions such as pass away, fall asleep, go to the heaven, tohave got rest or to be with the God, rather than using the word “die” directly. And insome cases, plump, chubby，slender or slim is used to refer to a girl who is fat or1 skinny. So we can see that when we have to talk about some unpleasant things，we tryhard to use some other indirect ways to make ourselves be polite or just good. We callthese "indirect" expressions Euphemism.As a normal phenomenon in human languages, euphemism is widely used inpeople's daily communication and is an important mediator in their relationships.Using euphemism is good for improving communicative effectiveness and sustainingharmonious relationships.

1.2 Purpose of the thesis
In the international communication, more than 80% of the information isconveyed in English. As one of the developing countries with great potential, Chinapays more attention to English education. At the end of the 20th century, our countryrequired the students to begin to learn English at the first year of junior middle school.But about 10 years later, the primary students in Grade three were asked to learnEnglish already. For senior middle school students. English is the only one coursewhich has equal importance with our mother tongue and the universalscience—mathematics. And in colleges，no matter which department you are in, everystudent needs to pass CET-4 and CET- 6. When it comes to finding a job, having anEnglish certification is one necessary condition. So some experts said that China hasbeen in an English rush. As for English educators, what they can do when facing thissocial phenomenon is to find out effective ways to help students adapt to the fastchanging society.However, lots of English graduates find that what they have learned in collegesis not enough to support them to do well in their jobs. How to convince the customersto buy their products? How to make a wonderful report to the leader? How to keepgood relationship with colleagues? How to write a proper e-mail to a foreign manager?The grammar they have learned all the time during their school years seems palewhen it comes to using English to do something. Actually，euphemism is one of themethods which are quite helpful in solving these problems.

2.1 Euphemism
The phenomenon of euphemism is quite common in any language. It is hard tothink of a world without euphemism.
