      Introduction引言

在传统的隐喻学研究,大多数学者认为隐喻只是作为语言现象。“隐喻表达式被认为是相互排斥的普通日常语言领域;日常语言没有隐喻,和隐喻机制的使用领域之外日常传统的语言。”In the traditional study of metaphor, most scholars regard metaphor as nothingbut a linguistic phenomenon. “Metaphorical expressions were assumed to be mutuallyexclusive with the realm of ordinary everyday language; everyday language had nometaphor, and metaphor used mechanisms outside the realm of everyday conventionallanguage.” (Ortony, 1979: 95) However, in 1980, George Lakoff and Mark Johnsonpublished the book Metaphors We Live by, marking that the cognitive research ofmetaphor has been in full swing. They made it clear that metaphor is a cognitivedevice used by human beings to organize the conceptual system and to understandone thing through another. While traditional studies of metaphor aim to answer such questions as “what ismetaphor”,“what is the nature of metaphor”, and others, Lakoff and Johnson’s theorygoes further beyond to illustrate the cognitive mechanism of metaphor. “Metaphorexists everywhere, it is in our language and thinking. The human conceptual system isbuilt on the metaphor.” (Lakoff and Johnson, 1980: 30). They regard metaphor asmapping from the source domain to the target domain. Mapping reflects therelationship between cognitive spaces. They propose that metaphor is generated bymapping from a concrete and easy source domain to an abstract, difficult targetdomain. The conceptual metaphor theory opens up a new era in the study of metaphor.Idiomatic expressions (formulaic expressions, and lexical expressions) andcollocations (ready-made chunks, and multiword phrases that usually co-occurtogether) are an important aspect of language learning. The importance of knowledgeof collocations in helping learners develop adequate levels of fluency is welldocumented in the literature. Zhang Zhizhong(1993), for example, found that moreproficient second language writers use far more collocations correctly than lessproficient writers.https://www.51lunwen.org/languagethesis/ No one can deny the fact that animal idioms take up an important part in idioms.A comprehensive understanding of animal idioms will facilitate foreign languagelearner. However, currently, most studies of animal idioms by foreign scholars focuson the rhetorical significance and cultural connotations of metaphor as well as ontheory construction and characteristics of animal metaphor in the cognitive areas, suchas L. P. Smith (1925) Lakoff & Turner (1989 ) O’Donnell, (1990) and Nesi (1995),Whaley and Antonelly (1983). Domestic scholars not only study traditionalrhetorical meanings of animal idioms, but also conduct comparative studies of Englishand Chinese animal idioms on the cultural level (Luo Shiping (2006), Mo Pengling(2001), Liao Guangrong (2000),Yang Yuangang (2003) and Zhan Bei (2003))Thus we can see that both domestic and foreign scholars approach animal idiomsfrom the cultural perspective, but in terms of researches of animal idiom metaphors,we find more theoretical exposition than empirical research. In the studies of dog idioms, scholars mainly focus, on the one hand, on themeanings, cultural connotation of the dog idioms, such as Zhan Bei (2000), Li Lei(2008) and Pan Yanhong (2005); and, on the other hand, on the comparative analysisof English and Japanese (论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
