摘要:本文是高中英语教学论文,从本次研究我们可以得出结论,教师对文化教学的重视程度仍然不够。理论性指导的缺乏、文化知识储备的不足,教材版本的不同、相关培训的缺失以及评价机制的不合理都影响着教师的文化教学意识。

2. Literature Review

In recent years, the cultivation of cultural awareness in English teaching is graduallybecoming the significant point in research. There are lots of relevant researches and famousthesis. In order to have a deep understanding and a comprehensive mastery of culturalawareness and culture teaching, the author carefully read a large amount of literatures andstudied some researches. In this chapter, at first, the author defines some key concepts, andthen shows the relationship between cultural awareness and culture teaching. At last, some ofthe previous studies of culture teaching and cultural awareness abroad and at home are alsocollected.

2.1 The Definition of Culture and Culture Teaching

Taylor (1871) puts forward that culture is a comprehensive concept. It not onlyincludes the knowledge, the legislation, the morality, but also covers the beliefs, the customsand all other personal habits and abilities. He thinks that culture and civilization are the sameconcepts, these two concepts emphasize the knowledge, the abilities, the beliefs and thehabits, and he holds the idea that culture is integral and spiritual, not a specific object. This isa basic meaning of culture and it has a significant enlightenment for later generation. Sapir(1921) believes that culture refers to the behaviors and thoughts of human society. Later, thenotion of culture is modified and enriched, and then physical culture comes.Du Xuezeng (2000) considers that culture of a society includes people and objects whatcan be accepted by a person and other members. Not liking biogenic process, culture islearned, and it includes end product of the study: knowledge. People in this society must befamiliar with others, and the life style should be matched with other social members.Moran (2009) regards culture as a kind of human evolution life style. It includes a setof life practice system and it is owned by all social members. This system is related to a set ofcommon cultural products, which is on the basis of a set of global ideas, and set in aparticular social situation.

2.2 The Brief Introduction of Cultural Awareness
Foreign language teaching contains language teaching and culture teaching. The aim ofculture teaching is cultivating students’ cultural awareness. Cultural awareness can also becalled intercultural awareness, and it consists of cultural knowledge, cultural understandingand intercultural communicative competence.Hu Wenzhong (1997) believes that cultural awareness is an active and consciouscognitive activity. In the process of learning language, people feel the connotation of cultureand accept the nurture of culture, and then convert into an emotion of pursuit culture. GaoYihong (1997) thinks cultural awareness is the awareness of culture diversity, the tolerance ofdifferences, the empathy ability of other culture members, the value of native language andthe reflection of behaviors.Cao Wen (1998) puts forward that learners may find the differences between nativeculture and other culture from multiple perspectives, and learning cultural knowledge is the beginning.
