Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 The Correlational Research on Context
Context has been given so many kinds of definitions from different aspects by differentscholars since the concept of context was proposed in the first time by B.Malinowski in 1923.However, because of being restricted by the limited horizon of every single subject, contextsill has no access to coming into being a general and scientific definition.In recent years, domestic scholars do have some trials in the field of defining context,which is preciser and more general than the former definitions. It is generally recognized thatcontext is the elements with that the usage of language will be affected, which includeslanguage element, material element and social cultural element. As to Hu Zhuanglin, theleading authority in the field of linguist at home, “Context is a basic concept in the study ofpragmatic. It is generally considered as constituted knowledge shared by the speaker and thehearer. The shared knowledge is of two types: the knowledge of the language they use, andthe knowledge about the world, including the general knowledge about the world and thespecific knowledge about the situation in which linguistic communication is taking place.”[2],which is the representative definition in the passing years. With the development of thecontext theory, definitions more delightful occur to the scholars. Some scholars who havetried to give the definition of context form the view of logic hold the idea that context shouldbe defined by its essence from the aspect of connotation as well as object from the aspect ofextension. Form the point of view of connotation, context is the environment in whichlanguage can exist, develop and transform and from the point of view of extension, context isthe factors that will affect and restrict the existence, development and transformation oflanguage. Context seems be attached more scientific and philosophical definition in this way.

2.2 The Correlational Research on Vocabulary
“It is generally accepted in the linguistic field that the aim of foreign language teachingis language interaction, therefore vocabulary teaching should also serve this target.Vocabulary teaching should be many-sided that includes phonetics, grammar, semantics andpragmatics.”[4]Zhu Chun thinks that “The specific request of learning a word is many-sided.One should have proper pronunciation which includes correct stress and tone, be familiar withthe form variation of a word along with its Collocation in practical use, understand the basicand specific meaning of the word and wield it properly in both written and spokenlanguage.”[5]Basing on the precedent views above all, here the author thinks that vocabularyteaching should include phonetics, morphology, semantics, grammar and pragmatics.Phonetics which is viewed as one of the three essential factors of language is thefoundation of the existence and development of a language.
