摘要:Formative assessment is still not familiar enough to scholars and teachers inChina. It is obvious that mostprofessional work on formative assessment is limited tothe theoretical level.

4.1 Results of Teachers’ Interview
To judge the quality of a test is to see whether it has achieved its purpose. Inunit testing, the emphasis should be put on testing the key knowledge of each unit,especially its key vocabulary, grammarand unit topic. They should be the main bodyof a unit test. So this paper put emphasis on analyzing the vocabulary and grammartesting in each unit testing paper. Besides, it also analyzes the reading comprehensionand cloze testing briefly.In figure 4.1, it lists the numbers of items that testify the vocabulary andgrammar, unit topic in each unit testing paper that selected from these three schools.And it also works out the proportion of the above items in each unit testing paper.And the last list is the average scores that students have earned. The final scores haveavery important relationwith the proportion of the key knowledge in each unittestingpaper. Generally speaking, if the proportion of the key knowledge is small, the finalscores will be low, andconversely, the final scores will be high.

Conclusion
As has been shown in the results of questionnaire for students, unit testing canplay an active role in improving theirEnglish study and can motivate students’ desireto learn English. By testing acertain proportion of each unit’s key knowledge, regulartesting can drive students to review the text and help to understand and consolidatethe unitkey knowledge. Besides, by examining the mistakes in the unittesting papers,students can diagnose their defects in learning and help themselves to solve thesedefects.On the otherhand, as has been shown in the results of questionnaires forteachers,unit testing does play an active role in improve their teaching. As unit testing’sfunction of testing a certain proportion of key knowledge of each unit, the testingresults can give relatively real feedback information of the extent to which thestudents have understood or resolved the knowledge in each unit. Besides, students’defects can also be diagnosed in the unit testing papers, which will facilitate teachersto make adjustment and arrangements in teachers. For example, regarding themistakes that most students have made in the unit testing paper, teachers canemphasize and practice such a defect once again accordingly. In this sense, all thefeedback informationhere will be of greatsignificance to teaching.
