toanalyze English neologisms statically. In fact, neologisms are changing constantlywith the environment, so we should lay our stress on the on-line, dynamicinterpretation of English neologisms. The study of English neologism in this thesis has both theoretical and practicalvalue. Theoretically speaking, through an explicit analysis of English neologism, wecan clearly understand the backstage cognition mechanism underlying the meaningconstruction process of English neologisms. Practically speaking, this study can helpEnglish learners to obtain a better understanding of English neologism and improvefurther communication.
This thesis is far from reaching the point of satisfactory because it is only anattempt made by the researcher. There must be some shortcomings which should befurther studied.Firstly, the data which have been used in this thesis are randomly selected fromthe book and website,so they are not typical enough to represent all Englishneologisms as a whole.Secondly, the researcher only collected 55 neologisms for study. In this sense, the data source hasn't achieved a satisfactory size, which will inevitably have someinfluence on the result of the study. Therefore, the present study fails to conduct athorough quantitative study.Thirdly, due to the limited time and space, the analysis of blending words isexplained in a general way instead of sub-classifying them and analyzing them indetail. In this sense, this study is not complete and comprehensive. To sum up, the researcher has analyzed neologisms formed by creating andsemantic change, but speaking of words formed by conversion, acronymy, clippingand loan words, the researcher cannot make a sound explanation. Now arises thequestion: can we apply CIT to the explanation of these words? Anyhow, this thesisputs forward some problems which remain to be solved, and the researcher hopes thediscussion in this thesis would throw some insights into the future study of CIT andits application in meaning interpretation.
