Chapter One Introduction


本论文进行了实验研究,通过整合一系列的学习和教学策略,一流的设计,将大学英语写作中的词汇法的影响。的意义和简明扼要地介绍了这篇论文,本章将被分为三个部分目前业内总的图片,即起源的研究,研究的意义,研究大纲。This thesis conducts an experimental research on the effects of applying theLexical Approach in college English writing through integrating a series of learningand teaching strategies in class design. As for the significance and a conciseintroduction of this thesis, this chapter will be divided into three parts to present ageneral picture of it, namely the origin of the study, significance of the study, and theoutline of the research.


1.1 Origin of the Study
词汇法(LA),迈克尔·刘易斯的理论(1997年)的基础上,定义语言包括语法,词汇,而不是词汇化的语法,奠定块的特点,在学习语言的重要性。词块他们苦苦追求统一的语法规则,语义和务实的背景。大语言单位总是出现在真实的语言环境,具有高频率和固定结构中。因此,词块在日常沟通中发挥的重要组成部分,写的易用性,准确性和流利的语言输出。词块研究已经证明,词块的使用确实使得任务的英语写作更容易,使用SE公式化的结构可以节省构建每一个新的句子,语法和搭配都没有考虑的麻烦的原因。从以前的报表,更重要的是,词块标示出本地或母语非根据波利赛德(1983)进行的研究的心理。因此,英语学习者,尤其是第二语言(SL)学习者需要付出更多的关注词块,如果他们想成为更自然和更流利地写了一篇好作文。Lexical Approach (LA), based on Michael Lewis’ theory (1997), defined thatlanguage consist of grammatical lexis–not lexicalized grammar, which lays greatimportance on the characteristics of chunks in learning a language. Lexical chunks arethe unity of grammatical rules, semantic meanings and pragmatic contexts. Largelinguistic units always appear in a real language context with a high frequency and aremore fixed in structures. Therefore, lexical chunks play a vital part in everydaycommunication, so as to writing, contributing to the ease, accuracy and fluency inlanguage output. Researches on lexical chunks have proved that the usage of lexicalchunks indeed makes the task of English writing easier, for the reason that using theseformulaic structures can save the trouble of constructing every new sentence with noconsideration of both grammar and collocations. What’s more, from the previousstatements, lexical chunks mark out as native or non-native speakers according to thepsychological research conducted by Pawley & Syder (1983). Therefore, Englishlearners especially second language (SL) learners need to pay much more attention tothe lexical chunks if they want to be more native-like and be more fluent in writing agood essay.
With the considerations of the current situation being so tough for Chinesestudents in English writing, the author tries to improve their writing ability byapplying LA in English intensive reading class with the aim of raising students’awareness of this theory, and more importantly hopes to help students acquiresufficient lexical chunks through a series of strategies involved in teaching andlearning, which is supposed to be more efficient in learning FL, which will be in linewith their cognitive learning habit. It’s supposed that with the storage of sufficientlexical chunks, the students’ writing ability will be gradually advanced and they willno longer be bewildered by English writing assignments.


1.2 Significance of the Study
Practically, the significance of present study is mainly in four ways:Firstly, the research aims to improve college students’ writing ability by shiftingour focus in teaching.
