Chapter Four Research Design and Result Analysis

The role of teachers is to help learners leam foreign languages successfully so that theycan achieve a higher language level. In our country, many English teachers as mediators arenot fully aware of their mediation roles and can not play the roles effectively. Beause of theparticular characteristics in independent colleges, the role of English teachers' is endowedwith a special meaning. It is necessary to conduct this investigation in order to figure outhow the English teachers in independent colleges play their mediation roles effectively. Thisstudy aims at the teachers' and students' perceptions on the importance and the practicalimplementation of English teachers' mediation in independent colleges. Moreover, the ai^horhas also carried out the classroom teaching practice so as to find out the effectiveness ;;udnecessity of teachers' mediation in independent college ELT. In this chapter, the author willintroduce the research questions, research subjects, research instruments, and researchprocedure in detail. Most of all, the author will present and analyze the results of the study.

Conclusion

Teachers in traditional college English teaching have also played their roles to someextent, but students have little space to develop their ability of autonomous learning. Thisstudy offers some guidance for English teachers as mediators in independent colleges. Builton the previous analysis and discussion, we can come to the following:Firstly, in independent colleges，all the teachers and students basically have a positiveattitude towards teachers' mediation in college English teaching. They have been tired of thetraditional didactic English teaching. For the importance of teachers' mediation, both theteachers and the students agree that the mediation items of sense of competence and controlof behavior are greater important while the mediation items of individuality and sense ofbelonging are less important.
