Conclusion

When we consider the limitations mentioned above, some suggestions for future researchesare to be listed as follows:
1. A bigger corpus should be constituted as the basis of further researches, in order to ensurethe representativeness and accuracy. And other genres of writing besides argumentations should beput into consideration in future research.
2. Long essays should be considered to achieve a more profound and insightful view on therelation between grammatical cohesive devices and the quality of writing.
3. Substitution and ellipsis, as an indispensable part of grammatical cohesive devices, alsoplay an important role in forging cohesion and coherence. More research should be carried out onthese two devices.
4. A parallel corpus which contains the writings by English majors and English nativespeakers should be constituted, so that, by comparison with the writings by non-English majors, thedifferent features of in the use of grammatical cohesive devices can be work out, which aresubsequently helpful for college English teachers to adjust their teaching methods and strategy toassist their students in improving the writing quality.
