Thoughts to start
Although I am in the curating course in partnership with the Design Musuem London, I didn't even know whether there is a design museum in 代写英国论文China before I came to London. Then I tried to search for information of that and have asked several people in the design sector from Beijing. But they barely heard of a so-called design museum. The only news that I could find online is about a small-scaled design museum in Beijing which focuses on posters, packaging and book publishing, as well as the XLY MoMA in Chengdu (in Chinese it is called XLY design museum.)
As known by most of the world, there are hundreds museums subjected of culture relics in China. As the fact that China is one of the four acient civilizations, the majority of Chinese people’s pride or main focus is based on the succession of the tradition and history. Thoroughly after the “Opening-Up” reform and continuous opportunities for professionals visiting museums in western society, there calls out more protection of China’s traditional culture. It might be the reason of the unprecedented reconstruction of those large amount of museums subjected on culture and history, like Palace Museum of Beijing. Moreover with the extraordinary boom of the contemporary art in recent years, along with the accompanying organizations like auction houses and art agencies, it is easily to find art-themed museums in almost every city, which really take up their responsibilities to push forward Chinese art, and open a window for masterpieces from around the world in this globalized era.
Although there are some other museums themed respectively in local crafts, textile or technological tools, we don’t have a large-scale design museum for the nation, like the Design Museum London, which is stated to be the world’s leading museum to capture the excitement and ingenuity to contemporary design in every form from furniture to graphics, and architecture to fashion, ” and has housed works from chairs to bikes, including great designers like Tom Dixon, and architects like Zaha Hadid; countless others to name.
Is it possible that China bring about her own national design museum with the intention to express and to promote the values of the country's design sector? Is there any chance that this design musuem works as the combination of production, relaxing zones, and social gatherings, or a more education-oriented research archive. How does a Chinese design museum prove that something is happening there while competing with other street fairs and manufacture shows in the age that the general public don’t put much attention on expensive designed chairs or high-fashioned garment?
Social
There is the reason why the idea of a design museum is a relative new idea in China. The Chinese are engaged in a massive social experiment in uprooting hundreds of millions of rural folk and forcing them to live in (newly-made) cities, hoping that there will be employment, civility, and happiness. There is also a massive over-investment in infrastructure—superhighways are constructed with no destination, and massive hospital-complex projects are abandoned half-way through, only to be inhabited later by homeless Chinese. Many scholars both within China and from abroad are quick to point out the many hurdles that the Chinese are facing. Remember that we are a communist country playing in a capitalist sandbox.
