摘要:随着心理学的进步与发展,激励理论也得到了提高,实现跨越式发展,高中学生学习英语的动机受到越来越多的关注。由于学习动机是高中英语学习和英语教学的主要因素之一,新课程改革为重点,培养学生积极的学习态度。

ifferent from the previous one.The English ability of the students in middle schools and primary schools is divided into nine levels.Students are demanded to pass the Grade 7 when they finish the senior high school. They also should reachthe Grade 8 when passing the National Matriculation English Test (NMET). It has set a higher requirementfor the students.Albert Einstein said that: “The best teacher is the interests.” Only when the students who have thegreat interests in English learning and who consider the language learning as the wish and desire of theirown can they activate the whole cognitive activities. The interests influence the learning qualities directly.The teacher should guide the students to transform the interests into the stable learning motivation. And inthis way the students will establish much stronger self-confidence. However, many senior high schoolstudents learn English passivity. They think that the target of learning English is for the offer of a gooduniversity and that English is one of the most important subjects in the NMET. The shadow of theexam-oriented education makes the learning of the students mechanized in some degrees. The passivenessand mechanization of the English learning limit the development of the students’ activity, interests and theefficient of the English learning, which makes them unhappy to pay more time to achieve higher goals. Asthe time goes by, the potential of the students cannot get enough development. So the enthusiasm ofEnglish learning is restrained. The question follows is how to stimulate the English learning interests andmotivation of the students in the senior high school.In view of these conditions, the English teachers should inspire and strengthen the students’ interestsin the teaching process. What the teachers should do next is to help the students converts the interests intothe stable learning motivation. In this way, the students will look at the bright side. They can also have thewill of overcoming difficulties and realize the advantages and shortages. Last but not least, they shouldform the spirit of team work and learn to share with others. In a word, the students should have anall-rounded development. Nevertheless, how to make it come true? The author of this paper did someinvestigations about the motivation of English learning with the aim to “crack these questions”. Therefore,there are two research objectives of the thesis. The questionnaire of the ELL, the software of Excel, theinterviews and the classroom observation were used as instruments in this research.


  
  1.3 The Organization of the Thesis论文结构
  There are five parts in this paper.The first chapter is an introduction. It mainly explains the background, motivation and objectives ofthe thesis. It also introduces the organization of the paper briefly.Chapter 2 is the literature review. In this part, definition and the categorization of the motivation fromdifferent scholars in different time are given. Language learning motivation theories in Psychology and theSecond Language Acquisition (SLA) are reviewed. What’s more, this part also analyses the currentsituation of motivation studies at home.The third part of this paper mainly contains the research questions, research participants, researchmethods and research procedures and the data collection.The fourth section of this paper is the results and discussion.
