After having a conversation with a local shopkeeper abdul waris at anarkali I came across many unnoticed problems like the shopkeepers were having security issues as theft had become quite common from the past 2 years and numerous cars and motorcycles have been stolen. Abdul told that due to improper planning for parking there was always a traffic jam in anarkali bazaar however he did appreciated the work done by government in providing a lined road into the anarkali bazaar which is of great comfort to the public. Moreover he further told that businessmen as well as customers faced difficulties as there were no proper washrooms provided by the government .Rang mehal is another area located in shah Alam gate and “sua bazaar” situated in rang is mehal is very famous for its jewelry. The residents of the area faced problems as the level of education provided in the area was very low and lower- class families by living their felt neglected both by the government as well as the social society. The rang mehal school is a famous school in the area and which was once a missionary school. After communication with one of its teachers Mohammad younas I came to know that the education provided to the students of the primary level is too backwards and obsolete. He told me that “The students will not be able to excel and survive in the competitive world outside by the education they are receiving here”. Half hearted government efforts have resulted in poor quality education in this area due to lack of funds available along with less experienced staff members.

Due to increasing inflation people are unwilling to send their children to schools and youngsters are forced to take up jobs in order to survive. In an interview Mian salman(A local shopkeeper) told me that “since the prices have increased especially of sugar and wheat their sales have gone down to zero” . People have to starve and ultimately they have to opt other options which are major cause of the increasing crime rate. The shopkeepers have to shift to other jobs which are more beneficial or shift their shops to other places where they can have better sales.

The residents of the area feel neglected as the government has failed to satisfy them. The residents of the area were concerned about the increasing crime rate and that the narrow streets were not lighted with street lights at night and people became more vulnerable to theft. The issue was raised by the public but till now no initiative has been taken and the streets of the walled city still remain unlighted. The peer makki bazaar near lohari gate is the main market for its residents and the area experiences traffic problems due to encroachments. In an interview a shopkeeper at peer makki bazaar imran sheikh says “there was a slum in purchasing power due to increase in prices”. He suggested that the government should take steps to reduce inflation and provide facilities to the business sector to increase the economy of the country. The government can play a vital role in the development of the business sector which will eventually bring prosperity in the country. Moreover when the economy improves education improves and the standard of living increases which is one of the main issue in the walled city.
