Abstract:
UK universities enjoy a long history that they have a high reputation in the world. Many Chinese people choose to get a degree in UK universities. Demands of high quality on university education are brought up in students’ mind. Nowadays, University education is getting more and more competitive in enrollment of international students and funding. Therefore, how to take the advantage of competitiveness and to know consumer behavior is the urgent topic of gaining advantage of competitiveness for UK higher education institutes.
The research applied consumers’ behavior’s perspective to analyze Chinese students in choosing UK universities. Specifically, the research will analyze various aspects that impact Chinese choosing a UK institute. A sequence of each aspect will be studied too. A quantitative research of questionnaire was first conducted to explore consumers’ behavior on the internet. Factors of consumers’ behavior were categorized into various types. Then, a classification model of Chinese students’ acquisitions of UK universities was developed. The model demonstrates the classification standards that consumer use to choose the UK University is useful for classifying consumers’ styles. Finally, their marketing implications were discussed. The paper suggests that UK higher education institutes should change their concept actively make a marketing strategy based on test results. They should pay attention to strengthen their hardware facilities and software capability to attract Chinese international students. And UK universities need to improve direct relationship with Chinese higher education institutes. Based on the results of the research, the research can be a reference for marketers of universities and education agents to make their marketing strategies targeting for Chinese students. And hopefully, the result can help Chinese’s student to consider these issues before their decision-making to choose a UK institute.
However, potential weakness still can be found in the research. Because of the limitation of answers and casualties of answers from questionnaire, the outcome of questionnaire will possibly not totally trustful. And because of lack of source, not all aspects that influencing Chinese selecting UK universities are analyze here. As a result, it is simply an attempt of the research to summaries as many factors as possible.
