摘要:本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,本文采用定性和定量相结合的研究方法,基于Halliday系统功能语言学的人际功能理论,从语气,情态和人称代词三个方面探讨英语课堂教师话语的人际意义。

Brazil,1982).Ellis suggested that teacher talk refers to the special language used by teachersto impart knowledge and organize teaching activities in the second languageclassroom,which is developed after the concept of Caretaker Speech and ForeignerTalk.It is an adjusted language used by teachers for second language learners,withthe unique characteristics of simplified grammar,slower speed,longer pauses andmore repetitions(Ellis,1994).

English TT includes two aspects:one is to act as the tools for organizing andcontrolling classroom teaching,and the other is the content of the target language tobe taught in English classroom(Cook,2000).TT refers to the language used byteachers to organize teaching activities in the classroom,which can be roughlydivided into two categories:one is the teaching discourse related directly to theteaching contents,such as teachers’questions to students,explanations to texts,answers to students’questions,and hints or feedback to classroom practice;the otheris English classroom language that has nothing to do with the teaching contents but todo with organizing and guiding teaching activities,such as teachers’greetings,advice,orders,suggestions and requests and so on(Zhao,1998).

2.2 Research on Interpersonal Function of Teacher Talk

2.2.1 The Concept of Interpersonal Function

In the theory of Halliday’s Systematic Functional Linguistics,meta-functions oflanguage can be divided into three types:ideational function,interpersonal functionand textual function.Interpersonal function(IP)is mainly accomplished through the Mood system andthe Modality system(Halliday,2000).Among them,the Mood system expresses theinteraction in the clause,which makes the clause become a communicativebehavior.While the Modality system expresses the speaker’s judgment or evaluation,that is,the speaker’s judgment on the success and validity of the proposition hespeaks,the obligation of one order he asks the other party to undertake,or thepersonal will he wants to express.

Systematic Functional Linguistics emphasizes the communicative function of language.As a tool of social communication,language undertakes variousfunctions.Hu et al.(2005)pointed out that interpersonal function refers to thespeaker’s use of language to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships,express his attitudes and inferences,and try to influence others’attitudes andbehaviors.The interpersonal function of language is the“meaning potential”of thespeaker who acts as an intruder in an interaction behavior,which is also considered tobe the participatory function of language.Language not only conveys information butalso expresses the identity,status,attitude and motivation of the speaker.Through thisfunction,the speaker expresses his attitudes by involving himself in a situationalcontext and tries to influence the attitudes of others.This function also expresses therole relationships between communicators involved in the situation,such asquestioner and respondent,notifier and doubter,etc.,which constitute theinterpersonal meaning of language(Hu,et al.,2005).
