Conclusion


This study only attempts to use lexical chunks in English reading in junior middleschool. Some theoretical or empirical studies in this regard are worthwhile to be furtherexplored to make lexical-chunk approach more effective in foreign language teaching.From the results of the study, we can see that lexical-chunk approach is a helpful way forboth students and teachers to learn and teach English. Since lexical-chunk approach isimportant in reading, in order to overcome the limitations mentioned above, the presentstudy tries to give some suggestions on the topic as follows:
Firstly, a larger sample size with the participants of different proficiency is needed toreplicate the experiment in order to increase its validity. Since this research only involved arelatively small group of students, studies with a much larger scale would be necessary.And the subjects should be selected from different representative areas in China. The subjects of this research are all in Grade 3 in a certain junior middle school. Further workcould be done for studying students from other grades in junior middle school so that amore convincing result can be gotten. More effective data processing methods such asregression analysis should be employed for a more powerful conclusion. Generallyspeaking, the study of lexical-chunk approach is a promising field not only in theoreticalbut also in pedagogical practice. It will have great influence on language teaching andlearning. The study is of vital importance and deserves great efforts.
Secondly, the present study demonstrates the positive effect in adopting thelexical-chunk approach to English teaching from the perspective of reading.
