摘要:This thesis is to examine teachers’ beliefs about classroom questioning andcompare their beliefs with their questioning practices in EFL classroom. With thebeliefs they hold and their classroom performance as the research focus, this researchis done through classroom observation, recording and transcription, and interviews.
Conclusion
This study focuses on the teachers’ practices of questioning in EFL and theirrelated beliefs and to what extent are teachers’ beliefs about classroom questioningtypes congruent with their observed practices.Teachers tend to apply different types of questions in different stages of the class.Generally speaking, in different teaching stage, teachers prefer a certain kind ofquestion to achieve the teaching goal. Some striking similarities of the dominantquestion types in certain stage of teaching have been found. However, some distinctdifferences of preferred questioning types between the teachers have also beennoticed.Teachers held a set of beliefs about what kind of question should play a dominantrole in each stage of the class, which are to a certain extend realized through theirclassroom practices. The analysis of beliefs about questioning types indicates thatthere exist some universal beliefs about the preferred type of question in EFLclassroom.A close link has been found among teachers’ beliefs about questioning types andtheir classroom practices in different classroom stages. Their practices and beliefstend to have mutual effects on each other. Teachers’ beliefs about questioning are inmost of the time in congruent with their observed practice.
