摘要:随着全球化进程的推进和技术的发展,英语学习,在我们的社会中发挥着越来越不可替代的作用。在1981年实施学位制度以来,中国已经形成了一套基本适合国情的研究生教育体系。因此,英语专业毕业生的数量也越来越大,作为一个专业的毕业生的英语教师或研究人员也占了很大的比例,成为骨干英语教师。

Xue Tianxiang (2001) puts forward that since theemergence of postgraduate education, the emphasis of academy has become the tradition ofpostgraduate education. At present, more researches focus on the cultivation of postgraduates’research competence, evaluation of the quality of graduates’ education and education patterns(Duan Li, 2003; Luo Yaocheng, 2005; Wang Xuemei, 2005; Kang Minshu, 2005; Zhang Delu,2005). So under the context, investigating the current situation of English postgraduates’academic research competence and how to develop the competence can help enhance theirresearch competence.Some researchers and scholars believe that autonomy has something to do with thedevelopment of the postgraduates’ research competence, and accordingly, more researchesfocus on the studies of cultivation of learner autonomy (Wang Duqin, 2002; He Lianzhen, 2003;Pang Weiguo, 2003; Zhou Li, 2006; Dai Weidong and Wang Xuemei, 2009). Wang (2009)points out that the theory of autonomous learning provides some enlightenment for Englishpostgraduates. (1) English postgraduates are adult learners, whose cognitive and affective levelis beneficial to autonomous learning; (2) The strength of the English postgraduates’ academicresearch competence is to some extent dependent on their autonomous learning ability.Therefore, it is necessary and indispensable to explore the relationship between the theory ofautonomous learning and development of postgraduates’ academic research competence.However, according to the
literature review, there is lack of research concerning this topic.Therefore, it is urgent to explore how autonomy can enhance the development of theiracademic research competence.I am one of the English major postgraduates to learn the research-oriented course byautonomy. When I begin the lesson, I come across some difficulties, such as, my incorrectunderstanding about research and lack in knowledge about academic research standard,empirical research methods and some learning theories, which make me, feel embarrassed.What’s worse, I do not communicate or discuss with other learners due to lack of confidence.Therefore, I find it is quite difficult for me to solve the problems, I want to quit. However, asthe course marches on, I realize that learner autonomy really brings some benefits in mylearning: my understanding about research changes, my degree of engagement in and withresearch activities deepens, my autonomy in researching is to a large extent enhanced and myresearch competence is to some extent promoted. Then I am becoming more and moreautonomous in my learning.Therefore, in order to solve the problems in promoting the postgraduates’ researchcompetence mentioned above, autonomy is an essential means for them to improve theirlearning quality and
