5.1 Result interpretation

On the basis of previous studies,the inclusion of the HFA-LN group matched onaspects of language abilities is also concerned and the performance of the fourcategories of children is interpreted here.

The results bore witness to the fact that the SLI children and the HFA-LI childrenwere significantly outperformed by the control children in both experiments and thatthe SLI group was indistinguishable from the HFA-LI group.The laggingperformance of the two clinical groups may stem from their overall delayed languageability compared to that of the TDA children and the difficulty in interpreting focusstructure and complex noun phrases.Taken together,these findings mirror what hasbeen reported in the literature for children with SLI and those with HFA-LI.Tager-Flusberg(2006)tries to distinguish between children with autism and thosewith SLI through the experiment of phonological processing and grammaticalmorphology.The result shows that patterns of performance among the HFA-LIchildren are similar to those of the SLI children,providing further evidence for thehypothesis that a subgroup of children with ASD has co-morbid SLI.She proposesthat these two groups display shared impairments at the morph-syntactic level.

6.1 Summary of the study

The present study aims to explain profiles in the acquisition of complex noun phraseswith the focus particle zhi(only)between SLI children and HFA children.Acomprehension task including two experiments was administered in the current study.
