5.1 Major findings of the study
There were relatively few studies focusing on the effects of the Continuation Taskon the lexical richness of Chinese learners’writings.In terms of the lexical richness,there was no consistent conclusion in the existing researches.This study intended tofigure out whether the Iterative Continuation is effective in improving lexical richnessof students’writings.The major findings were demonstrated as follows:
For the lexical sophistication,the Iterative Continuation showed significantinfluences on students’writings with three different English proficiency levels.Thisresult indicated that all of these students had the awareness to notice more advancedwords in the reading materials.The reading materials could provide students with plentyof English information.And in the training process,the three different Englishproficiency level students tend to produce more advanced words in their continuationtasks because of the previous continuation materials.
For the lexical variation,the Iterative Continuation had no significant influence onthe writings of students with three different English proficiency levels.It indicated thatthe effects of the Iterative Continuation Task on lexical richness were not influenced bystudents’English proficiency level.
